Uwell Caliburn AZ3 Kit

The brand-new Caliburn AZ3 is remarkably compact. When viewed from the front, it resembles the Caliburn A3S that has been chopped in half. Despite being small, it has a substantial build. With the pod attached, the Caliburn AZ3 measures 68.9mm in height, 23.8mm in width, and 23.6mm in depth.

The device is perfect for throwing in your pocket or bag and taking with you because of its short and hefty design. Those who want to wear their vapes can also do so with the AZ3 thanks to its convenient lanyard hole. The AZ3 is ideal for this due to its compact size and lightweight build.

The construction is simpler as the main body is aluminium extrusion but it still has plenty of style for such a stubby device. On the front of the device there is a cutout window to view your ejuice level. Below this window there is a Caliburn logo. This logo is an LED that lights up when you draw on the device to let you know your battery level. The logo lights up sequentially from the bottom of the device to the top, which looks pretty neat.

On both sides of the Caliburn AZ3 there are deep grooves that help to add grip, while still keeping the device very comfortable to hold. On either side, hidden in the grooves, there are two small airflow holes.

Centered on the back of the device, there is a graffiti style logo. I had no idea what it read at first, but upon checking out the website I can see that it says Zega. From what I gather, Zega refers to the new design, such as the new shape and size of the device. The font is printed in a dark font that doesn’t stick out too much, which is nice.

On the bottom of the Caliburn AZ3 is the Type-C charging port and two small airflow holes. The lanyard hole can be found at the very top of the device, opposite the pod. As I mentioned before, the AZ3 is the perfect device for those who like to wear their vapes. It is very small and very light as well.

The AZ3 is a simple pod device, therefore it doesn't have a lot of features. It is easy to use and excellent for novices. You may be prepared to use this device and begin vaping in a few easy steps. To start vaping, simply fill your pod with e-liquid, let it saturate, then insert the pod into the device and draw.

The AZ3's size and shape would be considered its most notable features. Many Caliburn products have entered the market, but none of them like the AZ3 in terms of appearance. The AZ3 has an entirely different appearance from other Caliburns, which often have a tall, slim, or short, flat square shape.

There are no complicated buttons to worry about. Unfortunately, with its simplicity there is also no adjustable wattage or airflow controls. With the AZ3 you get what you get, but in my opinion, it’s good the way that it is.

The rated wattage and ohms of the pod are marked on the base, but you don't need to worry about that because the device detects the pod automatically and adjusts the power as necessary. When the battery is removed, the top cap flips off, which requires some finesse, but you won't need to because it is top-fill.

Magnets link the pod to the device as it slides in easily. The magnets are powerful enough to prevent the pod from moving after installation but not powerful enough to pull the pod into position.

Each pod holds 2ml of ejuice and can be refilled by removing the top cap and filling through the opening. This pod is convenient because you can fill it up while it's still inside of the device. The cap can be a little challenging to remove, but with a little more effort and the right angle, it can be done. The most effective way I discovered to remove the cap was to push it back.

The pod is completely clear and visible through the opening on the device. This allows you to track your ejuice level and prevent any unwanted dry hits.

When the pod is in place, all you have to do to remove it and fill her up is to turn the mouthpiece over with your thumb. It won't fly off because it just pops over. It's quite easy to fill straight up to the top, but if you overfill it, some e-liquid will escape out of the breather hole. However, I found it easy to get used to and mess-free. The fill port is designated with a red silicone port that accommodates normal 10ml bottles.

There is a little detail regarding which direction you insert the pod; one side has the 'PRO FOCS' logo on it, while the other side has the minimum e-liquid level marked halfway across the wick hole. I didn't really find it an issue because you quickly get used to seeing the level anyhow, so I didn't give a FOC which side around I fitted the pod. Ideally, you should refill at that level, which is roughly 0.5ml, to obtain the longest coil life.

Right off the bat I got a near perfect vape from this little bugger, I started off with the pre-installed 1.0ohm and the flavour is superb, the draw is smooth, and the airflow is a proper MTL ciggie-like draw. It comes back to the perfect fitting pod providing a proper air-seal so air only comes in through the two tiny holes on the side.

The 0.8ohm was equally as good but with that little bit more of everything, warmer, more saturated, and a stronger hit but still tight enough to be pure MTL. At a real push, I could manage a tight RDL draw, personally I will be buying the 0.8ohm pods as they should handle ‘disposable’ style e-liquids better.

The Caliburn AZ3 has a built-in 750mAh battery, which is incredibly large for such a small device. This is a huge improvement over earlier iterations of the Caliburn, such the A3 and A3S, which both used 500mAh batteries. I consider myself to be a heavy vaper that vapes frequently, and I was able to get two days of use out of the AZ3 before needing to recharge.

The AZ3 performs admirably when it comes to charging. I was able to fully charge the battery using its 2A fast-charging in about 20 minutes. Due of the short downtime, this is incredibly quick and just wonderful overall.

During vaping, the CALIBURN logo will flash. The battery level of the device is communicated by the LED light on the front of the device. The following colors tell you where your battery level is at:

  • Green: 60-100%
  • Blue: 30-59%
  • Red: 0-29%

The Caliburn AZ3 is available in six beautiful colors. There’s your standard black, gray and silver colors, as well as pink, red and blue. The colors are all very nice and make the device pop, all while not overly garish.

The last thing to mention before performance is the handy lanyard loop on the top corner, Uwell have got it just right as you can easily thread a standard string type lanyard through it without snagging, it won’t accept lobster claw type lanyards though.

The brand-new Caliburn AZ3 is a wonderful small device. The largest improvement appears to be the smaller, more compact design, which is also accompanied by an always pleasant boost in battery capacity.

The flavor is outstanding, and the draw on the Caliburn AZ3 is ideal for me. The draw is just right—it's neither too tight or too loose, but just the right amount of both. Despite the device's small size, there is a lot of vapor produced, and whether you use high-strength nicotine salts or low-strength freebase e-liquids, you will still feel the effects of nicotine.

I had no problems with condensation building up inside the device or with leaks when testing it. Throughout my time with it, the AZ3 has been trouble-free and hasn't broken down or caused me any issues. The AZ3 maintains the reputation that Uwell's products have for being dependable. The Caliburn AZ3 is a great option if you're looking for an innovative device and want something that's simple, easy to use, tiny, light, and extremely portable.
